Therapeutic Nursing Interventions
NURS 403: Transition to Baccalaureate Nursing Practice
Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this paper is to define a clinical problem, review literature for appropriate research supported nursing interventions, critique current practice, and provide a plan for changing or adapting clinical practice.
Approach to the Assignment
My approach to this assignment was to address an ongoing problem with disregard to women’s pain concerning lack of pain management regardless of the invasive nature of intrauterine device implantation. I provided step by step of the implantation process along with current practice, nursing interventions, and a summarization of the project in full.
Reason for Inclusion
The reason why I chose to include this paper is because of the importance of its contents. I believe that more needs to be done for women regarding current gynecological practices. Also, to convey my abilities to address a problem within clinical practice and analyze interventions as well as provide rationale for implementation of proposed interventions.
Research
Evaluates research that focuses on the efficacy and effectiveness of nursing interventions
Within this paper I evaluated research that focused on the efficacy and effectiveness of nursing interventions during the implantation of an intrauterine device. It was outlined that the injection of saline to distend the uterus provided an easier pathway for the IUD, the option of Naproxen or Lidocaine as a stronger alternative to Tylenol, and perhaps the use of prior counseling to ease anxiety could also potentially aid in lowered pain experienced. Specifically, to prior counseling, “Increased anticipated pain is associated with increased perceived pain with IUD insertion. Black adolescent women experience greater anticipated pain with IUD insertion. This population may benefit from counseling and clinical measures to reduce this barrier to IUD use” (Hunter et al., 2020, para. 8).
